Why You See “Severe” in the Thai back to English Translation
In English, we may say “peanut allergy” or “severe peanut allergy” depending on how serious it is.
In Thailand, however, it’s very important to always make the severity clear, especially when communicating with restaurant staff or street vendors.
That’s why we include the Thai word รุนแรง (run-rɛɛng) — meaning “severe” or “serious” — in the translation:
Adding รุนแรง helps people in Thailand immediately understand that your allergy is life-threatening and not mild. This ensures they take extra care to avoid cross-contamination or hidden ingredients.
Even if it sounds a little more intense than in English, it’s the safest and most effective way to protect yourself.
